Study on Time Courses of Hemolytic Anemia Induced by Phenylhydrazine in Splenectomized and Nonsplenectomized Rats

Abstract
|
|
|
To investigate the role of spleen on time course of hemolytic anemia induced by phenylhydrazine, the changes of peripheral blood and weight of liver and spleen were observed after administration of phenylhydrazine hydrochloride for 2 weeks (30mole/200gm of body weight/day) in splenectomized and nonsplenectomized rats.
The following results were obtained ;
1. In both sham operated and splenectomized group, hemolytic anemia were developed.
2. Anemia were remarkable in sham operated group than splenectomized group.
3. Anemia were progressively recorverd in sham operated group although repeated administration of phenylhydrazine, but progressively aggravated in splenectomized group.
4. In both group, weight of liver ware somewhat increased but in slam operated group, weight of spleen were dramatically increased.
This experimental results suggest that judging from increase of weight of liver were not significant, red cell sequestration was chiefly spleen. After repeated administration of phenylhydrazine, anemia was progressively recovered in sham operated group, which suggest of spleen has erythrogenic function.
